Samsung has launched the Galaxy M53 5G with a 108 MP main camera and a large 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display at 120 Hz. That’s because the M53 is actually a cheaper version of the Galaxy A73 5G (despite the similar name, not the A53).

The only thing that separates the Galaxy M53 from the A73 is the chipset: the M53 is more likely to run on the Dimensionity 900 than the A-series phones’ Snapdragon 778G (“presumably” because Samsung rarely shares chipset specs, and we have Both are 6nm chips (TSMC), but Snapdragon has a better CPU architecture (based on Cortex-A78 4x vs A78 2x) and a more powerful GPU.

There’s also a single memory configuration of 6/128 GB, and there’s no option to expand RAM or storage. However, the microSD slot is rarely relevant in storage situations.

There’s also a slight letdown in the camera department. The aforementioned 108 MP main camera, hidden behind an f/1.8 lens, loses optical image stabilization (OIS). Two other lower resolution (under 12MP) modules on the back are a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The standalone 32MP camera is unaffected.

The Samsung Galaxy M53 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus panel with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. There’s no mention of reinforced glass, but the A73 doesn’t have Gorilla Glass (or something similar). The fingerprint scanner is on the side. (power button), even if everyone lacks a reader in the screen.

The Samsung Galaxy M53 is powered by a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging for the A73 and A53. One downside of switching to the Dimensionity chip is that Wi-Fi connectivity is limited to Wi-Fi 5 (ac) instead of 6. Same, supports Bluetooth 5.2 (as opposed to 5.0).
It was a silent start. Therefore, we are still waiting for the price information of the Samsung Galaxy M53 5G as well as the list of regions where it was launched. If it follows the initial A-series pattern, it may take a few weeks for these to be discovered.
